BSCC Young Climbers Weekend 24th-25th September ,2016

Bucks scout climbing trip report by Ryan Tritton
Saturday we started early getting to Stanage by 8.00 am. We started out with a steep walk up to Dover wall. Johnathan gave us the ‘crag talk’ (editor’s note safety protocols, environmental considerations plus a very good description on the geology of the area) before we started climbing.
Ben and Tom having just completed their SPA training need to put in some practice Practicing setting up top ropes. With the assistance of the other instructors they rigged an impressive 22 routes also set up and two group abseils. So some good climbing done by all. One interesting climb was ‘The Groper’ (HVS 5a) that you have to ‘move right for an exposed and powerful finish’. Instructors and young climber alike were queuing to have a go. It made for good viewing and entertainment with plenty of banter and encouragement from the group.
Finally finishing at 4:30 having good weather all day we made the customary trip to Hathersage village to carry out its traverse (Ed’s note shopping) . Getting back to bunkhouse we were welcomed by a lovely homemade victory sponge that Dee had made.
Sunday we headed to a crag we have not been to recently, Birchen heading to Emma slab area. Where getting off the group is a little harder. The rock was a bit slippery due to rain overnight and by the time it was drying out we had a ‘nice’ little rain shower. While we only got 6 routes climbed we did have a good bit of fun. You will find a couple interesting photo’s in the gallery and on our Facebook page. A couple of the young climbers found out what it means to have a group ‘belay’ you up a climb.
All in all a good weekend had by all, with lots of climbing done and experience gained.
